Artificial Intelligence (AI) is having a significant impact on the security industry all around the world and particularly in Latin America, improving the efficiency and effectiveness of security solutions.

Here are some specific examples of how AI is transforming this competitive industry in the region:

1. Intelligent Surveillance to Detect REAL Threats

Based on smart camera systems, AI is used to analyze images and videos from security cameras, automatically identifying suspicious patterns or anomalous behaviors. Thus, detecting unusual movements or identifying abandoned objects can alert security operators in real-time. Moreover, AI also achieves the opposite: security devices like those from 'cuid' can filter out 90% of false alarms thanks to their advanced AI system.False alarms are the main headache for users to the extent that many people prefer to disarm their alarms or cancel notifications to avoid being bothered every time a harmless bird crosses in front of their facades.

2. Predictive Analysis

The previous point is achieved with an advanced data analysis and prediction system: AI analyzes large datasets to identify patterns and trends that could indicate potential threats, as well as dismiss non-real threats.

In other words, with predictive analysis, security companies can reduce expenses and optimize results.

By gathering a large amount of data on burglaries and property theft according to zones, schedules, types of properties, etc., and key variables, computer systems capable of predictive analysis generate a reasoning model capable of predicting risk zones and more vulnerable access points.

In this way, predictive analysis allows for proactive thinking about security, helping to prevent crimes and allocate security resources more efficiently. Why leave guards and cameras in sectors that are not at risk, generating a huge operational cost? In this sense, AI is revolutionizing the security industry like never before.

Keep in mind that most people do not have basic knowledge of electronic security, so despite the extensive offer of cameras and security devices accessible with just one click, millions of Latin Americans end up buying poor-quality devices and/or wrong devices that they then do not know how to configure and use.

That's why, at cuid, we created a predictive analysis system capable of projecting the risks of a property based on a few questions, allowing anyone to obtain, through a brief online security assessment, a report with personalized security recommendations in just minutes.

According to an analysis recently published by ReportLinker, the predictive analytics market is expected to jump from $10.5 billion in 2021 to over $28.1 billion in 2026: more and more companies are turning to advanced analytics to optimize their business management, and the security industry is no exception.

3. Facial Recognition

Generally, facial recognition has made significant advances in recent years, both in accuracy and processing speed. A clear example, readily available, is how smartphones and tablets from major brands can instantly recognize us, avoiding the hassle of passwords.

Currently, companies like Megvi, Clear Secure, AnyVision, Sensory, Inc., Realeyes, or the Spanish Herta Security have the advantage in this competitive and disruptive market, which not only encompasses entry and exit to protected areas but is also applied in some companies to register the entries and exits of staff.

Likewise, facial and biometric recognition to enter homes or businesses is no longer part of science fiction: currently, AI is used to improve authentication and access control through precise identification of people using biometric techniques, such as facial recognition. This contributes to greater security in critical facilities with high flow, such as companies or industrial installations.

4. Autonomous Mobile Robots

The security robots we used to see in futuristic movies already exist in real life, and with some incredible features. In Latin America, there are still no security companies offering them, and their cost remains very high in the United States (for example, the Spot robot costs over $75,000) and the countries of Asia, Europe, and Oceania that market them, currently exclusively for industries.

These robots can patrol extensive areas, even underground, such as coal or copper mines, detect the slightest unwanted infiltration into a property, identify suspicious behaviors, and send alerts to security operators.

Mobile Robots

As with many technologies, the military industry leads the way in terms of innovation and cutting-edge. A clear example of this is drones: companies like Elbit, Lockheed Martin, or Turkish Aerospace Industries have been secretly working on creating unmanned vehicles for all uses long before (we are talking about several decades) photo drones hit the stores.

For instance, AeroVironment, one of the largest drone suppliers for the U.S. military, produced portable unmanned aerial vehicles for the Navy in the mid-1980s, and recently launched a new line of military drones, the Raven series, capable of flying using computer vision and GPS coordination.

However, neither the mentioned robots, nor the drones, nor any available security device are yet ready for full autonomy, so the training of operators and monitors is essential to get the most out of these innovative technologies.

5. Resources Optimization

AI can analyze real-time data, such as traffic and local events (just like Waze does to show you the best routes), to adjust the scheduling of security patrols based on changing conditions, thus optimizing resource use.

Thus, with the filtering of false alarms, security companies with this technology can reduce their operating expenses by up to x10, significantly limiting unnecessary spending on response teams that respond to false alarms.

Moreover, devices like smart plugs allow for optimizing energy consumption, and UPS units extend the lifespan of appliances, preventing damage caused by power outages and voltage sags.

6. Integration of mixed Technologies

Human management continues to have irreplaceable value in integrating different technologies and security devices, such as camera systems, motion sensors, CO and fire detection sensors, and smart plugs, so that security monitoring, access, and property exits, and energy savings go hand in hand smoothly and integrated.

In this sense, the 'cuid' video monitoring system is a clear example of the perfect integration of these technologies with AI, combining predictive analysis and electronic surveillance with the judgment of experienced agents, to resolve many more alerts with more speed and efficiency and fewer personnel involved.

At cuid, all these devices are integrated through an efficient Gateway that serves as an interconnection interface and links to a proprietary development app that allows having all security insights in real-time.

AI is changing the security industry, and we must be attentive because innovations in this field are constant, and if we don't keep up, these technologies can literally pass us by.
